Эсхинантус ‘Thai Pink’. Цветки крупные, трубчатые, перламутрово-розовой окраски, что довольно необычно для этого рода. Сросшаяся (трубчатая) чашечка может либо соответствовать цвету венчика, либо быть немного светлей, или зеленой с розовым. Листья темно-зеленые, овальные, плотные, некрупные, мясистые. Побеги поникающие, длинные и крепкие, превращающиеся летом в обильно цветущие каскады.

Flowers arrive in winter on the tips of the previous season’s growth and the flowering cycle last for many weeks. Flowering usually doesn’t start until plants are mature. Aeschyanthus ‘Thai Pink’ earned its quirky common name because of its little bright pink tubular flowers which poke out from a sheath-like calyx at the end of each trailing vine. If cared for well, vines grow quickly and easily and can reach up to 1m in length, making it an ideal plant for a hanging basket or macrame.

Aeschynanthus “Thai Pink” is a vigorous, large growing species with vines often reaching 6-7 feet (~2m) in length in 12-18 months after being started from cuttings. The flowers are large (2 inches/5cm) and are pink in color, quite unusual for the genus. The fused (tubular) calyx may either match the color of the corolla, or be a somewhat translucent green with pink. This cultivar is sometimes referred to as A. chinanthus, or as A. chinanthus “Thai ‘Pink”. Occasionally the species name is spelled “chionanthus”. Because there appears to be some variation in the flowers, especially the calyces, that the material in cultivation has multiple origins, implying a “wild” origin as either a species or a distinct variety within a species.
