Sinningia speciosa 'Carangola'. Tuberous perennial flowering plant from the family of plants of gesneriaceae. Natural species, the ancestor of the modern forms, known as "Florist Gloxinias". Discovered near the city of Carangola in Brazil, in a hilly area near the coast of the Atlantic ocean. Hence the name of the species is Sinningia Carangola. In nature, the plant prefers well-drained soils of the lower tier tropical rain forest, rich in humus, waterfalls and ponds among the rocks in light shade and in high humidity. The flowers are large, about 5-6 cm in diameter, simple, drooping, bell-shaped, with wide delicate lavender-blue tube with a hump and with thin delicate white petals. Special spectacular contrast creates a dramatic dark purple colour of the throat that contrasts with the bright white of the Corolla. The leaves are large, olive-green, juicy, oblong, toothed, on short petioles, form a dense flat rosette. The Bush is medium size, about 25-30 cm, looks very decorative. The plant is quite hardy and extremely attractive, especially in the flowering period, which lasts until late autumn.
